The Global Protection Cluster Human Rights Engagement Task Team and UPR Info organized an introductory session on the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) for CSOs and UN Country Teams.
The UPR is a State-led, peer-review process whereby the human rights record of each UN Member State is examined. This unique mechanism offers an opportunity for civil society organizations, national human rights institutions (NHRIs), UN agencies and human rights defenders to give an input into the review of their country.
This session provides participants with a basic introduction to the UPR mechanism and its modalities. Specifically, the session will provide an overview of the different entry points in this process for various stakeholders and briefly highlight the linkages and complementarity with other human rights mechanisms and the Sustainable Development Goals.
