On the watch, Akobo and Nyirol counties: An inter-agency team conducted a needs assessment of people affected by intercommunal fighting in Walgak, Diror, Buong, and Barmach of Akobo West in Akobo County and Waat of Nyirol County from January 18 to 20. The team reported over 37,600 displaced in the assessed areas. They fear returning home due to the presence of attackers in their villages. During the attacks, at least 29 people were killed, 22 others injured, and 16 children and women reportedly abducted. Over 3,300 cattle were stolen, and 39 houses were burned in Wunbil Boma in Nyrol County.

Displacement in Maiwut county: The recent recurrent attacks launched on January 29, 2023, in Yambure, Pajung, and Kuerkem bomas of Jekow Payam led to the displacement of civilians to areas such as Turu, Chikal, Dhardhar, Pagak, and refugee camps in Ethiopia. The clashes had a disproportionate impact on the civilian population, resulting in recurring displacement, destruction of properties and infrastructure, cases of conflict-related sexual violence, and family separation. The majority of the IDPs are women, children, and elderlies, with the most vulnerable being single mothers, children, and male youth.
