GPC, Sphere
The Global Protection Cluster is pleased to invite you to the nineth session of the GPC 2026 Protection Series. The Protection Series is a public, protection practitioner-driven learning initiative designed to strengthen protection practice across the humanitarian system.
Throughout 2026, protection partners across the globe will be invited to join webinars that are provided by protection actors showcasing tools, guidance and research that aim to improve protection outcomes in humanitarian action. This series will remind us of existing best practice and bring emerging approaches and evolving protection issues to the attention of the wider protection network.
In this session, Sphere will present The Sphere Handbook. The handbook is the world's most widely recognised set of common principles and universal standards for humanitarian action, field-tested across two decades of response. The Handbook contains the Humanitarian Charter and Minimum Standards in Humanitarian Response. It is based on 4 Protection Principles and 9 Commitments to core humanitarian standards.
The Sphere Handbook 2018 was launched on 6 November 2018, marking the 20th anniversary of the Sphere movement. As we approach the 30th anniversary, the handbook is being revised again to reflect contemporary humanitarian action.
The event will take place virtually on 28 October 14:00 – 15:30 pm Geneva time.
This session focuses on:
- Understanding the Sphere Handbook.
- Why the Handbook matters for Protection Action.
- An update on the Handbook revision process.
This event is public and open to all.
Partners interested in presenting tools, guidance, research, or emerging protection topics as part of the 2026 Protection Series are encouraged to get in touch with [email protected] for more information.
