The Global Protection Cluster is pleased to invite you to the seventh session of the GPC 2026 Protection Series. The Protection Series is a public, protection practitioner-driven learning initiative designed to strengthen protection practice across the humanitarian system.
Throughout 2026, protection partners across the globe will be invited to join webinars that are provided by protection actors showcasing tools, guidance and research that aim to improve protection outcomes in humanitarian action. This series will remind us of existing resources, best practices and bring emerging approaches and evolving protection issues to the attention of the wider protection network.
Legal aid equips affected populations with the information, advice, and support necessary to make informed decisions, claim and restore their rights, and sustain recovery during and after crises. In this session, colleagues from DRC, IRC, NRC and UNHCR will provide a refresher on the inter-agency tools on legal aid and access to justice that were developed in the framework of the GPC’s Task Team on Law and Policy “Legal Aid in Humanitarian Settings” Project 2021-2024. This session will focus on the Legal Aid Analysis Framework, the justice system analysis toolkit, the community based paralegal toolkit and reflect on their application to collectively achieve important protection outcomes.
The event will take place virtually on Tuesday 6 October, 15:00 – 16:30 pm Geneva time.
Beyond the presentation of specific tools, you will hear from legal practitioners across 3 different geographical contexts (the Americas, Ukraine and Mali) who will reflect on the importance of:
- Positioning legal aid and access to justice as a key area of humanitarian action and protection programming in crisis settings, which often receives insufficient attention - while also being key to nexus and recovery efforts from crises to solutions;
- Producing collective legal analysis to be translated into actionable advocacy and programming and naming outcomes we seek —core to protection outcomes and engagement with duty bearers;
- Ensuring people-centred, inclusive and safe programming, with a focus on empowering the most vulnerable and hard-to-reach populations.
